MERLIN'S GRAVE

The forest of Broceliande in Paimpont is famous because of the legend of Merlin.

This monument is the vestige of a Neolithic covered path that was destroyed in 1894; only three vertical props remain.

Many people leave offerings in the circle of stones for Merlin the enchanter.

Down below you can see the Fountain of Youth. There, on the night of the summer solstice, people used to take a census of the children born during the year.

BARENTON' SPRING

According to popular wisdom you had to be careful not to pour water on Merlin's Doorstep for this could bring a storm about.
The water of this spring is supposed to cure mental diseases.

THE DRUIDS' TOMB

The roofing of this Neolithic collective grave, also known as Vivian's Hotié, has disappeared.
When the archaeologists excavated they found smooth stones and shards from pieces of pottery.

According to the legend here is the place where Merlin told his secrets to Vivian, and after that she drew magic circles and she shut him up in a prison that had neither a chain nor a wall.

They say that when a stormy wind blows at night you can hear Merlin moaning in the Valley of no return.

THE VALLEY OF NO RETURN

If you take advantage of the visit by taking a walk in the Valley of no return, you will see a site that is contemporary but representative of the link to the legends of Broceliande : The gold tree.

THE GARDEN OF MONKS

This old monument which is out of the way in the moors is named from the legend.
There the monks had a disorderly way of life with their lord. Saint Méen caught them having an orgy and they were turned into stones in the very place of their debauchery.
